Alaro in Arabic means 'refuge' or 'retreat'. It is one of the hidden treasures of mallorca. The village nestles under the mountain
range guarding the gate between two sheer cliff faces known locally as the witches. It is through this portal that the road winds up
to the microclimate of Orient Valley where there is a waterfall system in the spring, winter and autumn.
On the Western peak is the castle of Alaro, from where the views accross the island are spectacular. Half way up the mountain walk to this
point is the traditional lamb restaurant which is open 365 days a year.
The main square is the focal point of the village with traditional bakers, cafes and bars. It is a half hour drive to the beaches of the North and the South which is fantastic because you have the choice of many beaches to visit
without suffering the beach orientated holiday makers.
There is public transport into Palma which is one of the prettiest little capital cities in Europe with its own beaches, night life, restaurants
and one of the most impressive cathedrals in the world.
